Leuven forces a fifth set against Mechelen

With their backs to the wall, Leuven Bears beat Kangoeroes Mechelen after two overtimes in the fourth round of the Belgian playoffs.

The fourth round of the semi-finals between Leuven Bears and Kangoeroes Mechelen offered an incredible scenario. Confident after winning the last two games, the visitors started the game better by taking a 9 point lead after a little more than 3 minutes (6-15). But then Leuven took control of the game with a 22-4 run in 13 minutes. The Kangoeroes then balanced the exchanges and managed to take the lead again in the last 5 minutes thanks to the hot hand of Domien Loubry (29 points).
With a five point lead with two minutes left in the 4th quarter, Mechelen seemed to be getting closer and closer to a qualification for the final. But Leuven didn’t give up and Joshua Heath (20 points) finally snatched the overtime by attacking the rim on the Bears’ last attack (66-66). History repeated itself during the overtime. Mechelen went up by 7 points but the home team managed to come back to the score (80-80). In the second overtime, Kevaughn Allen scored 10 points and made the difference for the Bears. Solomon Young was the best player of the game with 31 points and 13 rebounds.
A decisive fifth round on Wednesday will determine which team will face Filou Oostende in the final.
