Filou Oostende now knows its three opponents in the next round of the Basketball Champions League: in addition to the Spaniards of Unicaja Malaga and the Romanians of Cluj Napoca, already known, there will be the… Ukrainians of Prometey, the men’s version of the team that just eliminated Mithra Castors Braine in FIBA Eurocup Women.
The Ostend fans, who can once again attend games at the Versluys Dome, would have loved to see Hapoel Jerusalem, where Belgian Lion Retin Obasohan is playing. But, despite the home advantage, the Israeli team lost in its best-of-three matchup against the Ukrainians. Jerusalem had won the first game in Israel, lost the second game in Ukraine, and this Thursday, lost in the decisive game 3 in Israel on the score of 75-85, despite a solid performance by Obasohan: 19 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists. Hapoel completely missed its start (12-27 at the end of the first quarter) and could never come back.
Oostende will start next Wednesday, February 2, in Malaga, and will then have to deal (in principle on March 9) with a trip to Ukraine, always an endeavor in these times.
